[Government Aided General Degree College]

Philosophy Department

About the Department

The department started its journey with the general course in Botany with a part time teacher in the year of 2006. With the inception of this department, the students of this college and local people realized that a huge number of aspiring students are interested to study Botany course in this college. Envisioning the demand of the local people and students, the college authority was also convinced to open Botany major course (Honours) in this college and therefore, Botany Honours was introduced in the year of 2011. We started our journey with 14 students and 1 guest lecturer and 1 non-teaching staff. Presently, the department is having one full-time faculty and three SACT. Our first Honours batch passed out in the year 2014 with 3 first class marks and one of them has already been admitted in the PG course. Since then, the Dept. is producing good quality students who are ranking among the top scorer in the university and regularly getting admitted in PG courses. Presently the department has adopted choice-based credit system (CBCS) for offering Hons and General degree course in Botany. The dept. takes special care to the students specially when they are lagging behind. In addition to conventional course our department offered career-oriented course in “Pisciculture and Medicinal Plants” supported by UGC. We used to invite experienced subject experts and consultants to teach the students studying in the course. Within the limited resource, we have constructed a research laboratory to pursue research in the modern areas of biotechnology like biofertilizer production, bioremediation and presently bioinformatics and computational biology leading to Ph.D. degree. Two major projects funded by UGC and DBT were completed successfully in the department. The department has taken initiative to protect endangered medicinal plants of this locality by conserving those plants through establishment of a medicinal plant garden in the college campus. Briefly, we the teachers, staffs and students are working together as a family to upgrade the status of this department for the future students in the hope that our students will prosper in their life through their knowledge, work culture and discipline they are inheriting from this department and will glorify our college and society in future.
